Raised outside Boston on a foundation of folk, country and rock & roll, Kashner developed his freewheeling style on the road, travelling across the U.S. with a guitar in hand and busking along the way. His sound draws from country, Americana, roots, jazz and rock, blending the traditions and places he encountered along the way.
Eventually, the road led south. In 2011, Kashner landed in New Orleans, immersing himself in a city that knows how to make music with grit. There, he formed the Jon Hatchett Band, using his grandmother’s maiden name, and released three albums with the group. The records folded the sound of New Orleans with the musical roots of his upbringing.
These days, Kashner has traded the streets of New Orleans for the woods of Maine, where he collaborates with fellow musicians while continuing to perform nationally and write songs. By day, he works as a forest manager, helping improve the health and resilience of forest stands.
His forthcoming album, Out On A Limb, marks a new transition for Jon. For the first time, he’s releasing music under his own name: Kashner. It’s a fitting reset for an artist entering a new chapter—though some things haven’t changed. Jon is still most at home with a guitar nearby, a song in progress and somewhere new to roam.
